Playing at the top level of football requires a lot of effort, attention, commitment, dedication, and a little bit of luck in order to get to the maximum height of football globally.

Unfortunately for the Camberwell-born striker who started his playing career in England, he did not get the privilege and luck to play at the top level of English football despite spending 14 years in the country.

However, there is still much to celebrate for the Gillingham striker, John Akinde as the League One side have confirmed through their official website that his contract will be retained beyond the current campaign.

The League One season was ended due to votes from clubs who support the motion for the third-tier league in the English Football to come to an end but with no relegation and team’s vying for promotion go ahead with playoffs.

John who joined The Gills from Lincoln City in the winter transfer window has scored a combined total of 155 career goals for all the sixteen English teams he played for, making 462 appearances in the process.

His only goal for Gillingham was against Blackpool in February.
